MOTOR-CYCLE COLLIDES WITH EXPRESS. . Mr. H. C. Pearce, a member of the staff of Messrs. Levin and Co., and a son of Mr. G. F. Pearce, a director of the firm, met with a serious nccident yesterday morning. Mr. Pearcc was comin,? in from the Hutt on his motor-cycle about 9 o'clock, and on reaching tho Thorndon tram terminus one of the wheels of the machine fouled a tram mil. Tho motor-cycle became unmanageable, and collided with an express. Mr. Pearce was badly hurt, and on lieins; removed to the Bowon Street Private Hospital it was found that he was suffering from concussion and a. fracture of his right It?. On inquiry last evening it was ascertained that Mr. Pearce had regained consciousness, and that he was slightly better. FALL FROM MOVING TRAMCAR. A fireman named Arthur Anthony, 28 years of age, belonging to the steamer Waiwera, fell off a moving tramcar at the corner of Cuba and M!npners Streets last evening, ami received injuries to his head wlu'ch necessitated his removal to tlio Hospital. He was admitted to the institution about 7 fl.m. in an unconscious condition, but "shortly afterwards he regained consciousness. His condition is not regarded as serious. TROUBLE ON A SHIP. , Some troublo occurred among the crew of the steamer Port Hacking last evening, with the result that Matthew I.acey, a fireman, was hurt about the head and ribs. His condition was each that ho had to be taken to tho Hospital for treatment, but his'injuries are not considered to bo serious. Subsequently, Constablo Isbister nrrested a fireman on a charge of having assaulted Lacey so as to cause him actual bodily hftrm. Tho accused ivill appear before tho Magistrate's Ci'Uit this morning. York, a passenger by the steamer Mako, at Hicks Bay. fell overboard and was drowned last night.
