DANGEROUS CRIMINAL RECAPTURED

Itobert Nixc'i Warden, a dangerous criminal who escaped from Mount Eden Gaol, Auckland, on September 29, was arrested this afternoon by Constable Williams, of -Sydenham. The police wera advised that a man answering "Warden's description had been sewi in this district. and Constable Williams accosted him this afternoon. On being asked his name the nun replied "Maggon." Constable Williams then said: '"What, is your correct, name?" and in answer the infill drew a revolver and, covering tho constable, said: "That is my name." Constable Williams immediately closed with his man, and though the 6 : gnt of tho revolver persuaded most of the onlookers to keep out of harm's wny, a postman went to the constable's assistance and before long the man was overpowered and sccnrcly roped, in which condition )ie .was .taken io the police station. The revolver was found to ha unloaded, though the prisoner had a box of cartridges on his person. The sunn's identity was established ns the missing prisoner. Warden, as lie was being taken to the cells, remarked to SeniorSergeant Cummings: "Well, you've now got another chance of putting me up." Warden's people, who were well-known to the police, previously lived in Ciiristehiirch, in which city he was brought up, wiiich probably accounts for the fact that on each occasion that lie has escopod he has sought refugo here.
