KELBURN RATEPAYERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.
Tho adjourned annual meeting of the Kelburn Ratepayers' Association was held last evening in tmi Training College. Mr. F; Meadowcroi't presided, and there was a, fair attendance of members.
Tho chairman said that the work done by the committee had resulted in many improvements being made in the district. But they were not satisfied that enough had bcwl done. There were other associations, such as Hataitai, Lyall Bay, Island 15ay, and Wadestown where they were very active, and their work was well known and well advertised. And if Kelburn. wished to have improvements tiien.U.) a&iciivtion must also be active. There had been no meeting since 1917 wing to various reasons. / The association was not large, tho subscription for 1918 totalled .30s. at 2s, Gd. per head; but those who joined the association would not be joining a bankrupt conccrn, for they had a credit balance of 265. Gd. , Tho chairman then referred to/ the impoveinents that w;ere necessary, and urged that a Test should be erected in the district. The election of officers resulted as follows; President, Mr. F. Meadowcroft (reelected); 11011. secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. Sievers (re-elected); committee, Miss Maitland, Messrs. A. Gray, J. Orchiston. M. Myers, H. A. Gold, 11. Mainland, F. Page, F. S. Tope, J. S. Tennant, J. F. Atkins, E. J. Hyams. J. 11. Stewart, S. Jacobs, F. Beveridgo, and — Staee. Councillor W. H. Bennett said that-110 was in favour of giving' the south-eastern pari? of Kelburn access to Te Aro flat. Tho question of taking over the prison eito 011 the Torraco for educational, purposes was again before the public, and he thought the opportunity 6hould 'lje seized by Kelburn to obtain access to the Te Aro flat, and lie suggested a line that would afford a short cut for the- residents. He thought that this could be done, and he gave his reasons. • Tho time was opportuiio for the ratepayers of Kelbnrn to obtain another means of access. He said it was difficult to depl with Kelburn because of its elevation, and there wero several pet schemes, but so far nothing had been done. He detailed the several proposals for. providing Kelburn with another tram service, and Mr. Bennett said that 110 was satisfied that a cable tramway would have to be built. The city would have to face the question of acquiring the Kelburn Tramway. With respect to the milk question, 110 said that if the local dairy was going to bo closed, then if thirty "residents signed a requisition the Milk Committee would call upon' the company operating in tho district to provide a depot, and if tho company failed to do so, tho committed would do so for them.
