NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. The joint committee recently appointed by the three local affiliated clubs to manage the forhcowing Now Zealand Championship Tournament held its first meeting last week, when there was a largo attendance. The following appointments were made: —Chairman, Mr. >V. illackay; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. S. Taylor; Finance Committee, Messrs. W. Jfaekay, C. W. Tanner, F. J. Brooker, H. Godtschalk, and F. K. Killing: ; Playing- Committee, Messrs. Tanner, Mason, Brooker, Faulkuor, and Kclling; Entertainment Committee, Messrs.' Tanner, Bock, and A. Clark (with power to add to their number). ■ To successfully carry out the tourney, which will do down into chess history as New Zealand's first post-war congress, it will be necessary to raise at least .£SO. Mr. F. J. Brooker made the very welcome announcement that the' Ngaio Chess O'.nb ia about to join the association. Wellington- will then he in the unique position of having no fewer than four affiliated clubs. It may bo added that there hns been no Championship Congress in this city 6inco Easter,''l9oß, the Wellington centre haying since then stood down twice, viz., in favour of Napier in 1911 and in favour of Auckland in 1913 (Exhibition year). Owing to war conditions, no Championship Congresses have been held in New Zealand during the past five years. In these circumstances it is hoped that there will be a large and thoroughly representative gathering of competitors when the congress opens in this city on Boxing' Day. BOWLERS V. NON-BOWLERS'. Flay in the WeElington Che-ra Club's annual fixture, Bowler? v. Non-Bowlers, was concluded on Saturday evening, when the Bowlers were returned ;winners by fifteen games to thirteen after a close iinish. Of the five matches played to date, the' Bowlers have won one and the non-Bowlers four, as foltows:— Wins.
