RETURNED SOLDIERS
ESTABLISHMENT C(F PERMANENT CLUB. An extraordinary meeting of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association was hold in tho Sydney Street Schoolroom last evening, Mr. J. D. Harper presiding. It _ was reported that the returned soldiers' stall at tho recent Salvation Army fair had realised a sum uf Ala Bs. Id., and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded' the sub-committee for tho efforts it mado on behalf of the fair. On the motion of Mr. M. Biulger il was resolved to ask the executivo to" prepare a statement showing:—(l) What action has been taken in the past regarding tho establishment of a perinan ent club; (2) approximate cost of establishing and maintaining such a club; (3) estimated funds available for such object; W) any recommendations'or suggestions on tho subject." Mr. Badger gave notice to move at the next meeting:—"That a resolution passed affirming tho nndesirability of establishing a permanent club be, and '*> hereby rescinded." ' The meeting then proceeded to the election of delegates to attend tho conference of tho New Zealand Returned Soldiors" Association, which is to bo held in Wellington on Friday next. 1 Eleven nominations '/ere received, and tho following were elected:—Messrs. J. D. Harper, A. B. Sievwright, and W. Perry. 1 The (lisborne and Auckland Associations submitted remits proposing changes in tho district organisation sahemo, and it, was resolved that the delegates should be allowed to exercise their discretion on these matters. It was decided to support a remit from the Waipawa Association that £ Daylight Saving Bill, on the lines proposed by Mr. T, K. Sidey, M.l'., should be demanded.
