Somo sixty-seven applications wero recejveo'. These have been carefully considered, and ns tho result of a process of elimination the candidates have been reduced to five, who will be personally interviewed by the Hospital Committee on Thursday next. Tho position carries a salary of i£3oo a year (without rcsidcuco). The new hospital building on the orcst of tlie hill abovo the general hospital is now completed, and is at present being furnished. , It will not bo ready for occupation for somo threo weeks. Since the new hospital was orcctcd: there has been a change of medical superintendent, Dr. Randnll Woodhouso having succeeded Dr- Barclay. Tho former reported against the now hospital being utilised for diphtheria patients, and tho board has adopted tho superintendent's ideas. Theso are, in effect, that tho new structure on the top of. tho hill should' be used as a fever ward; that the present fever ward should lie used for consumptives; and that the Seddon Annexe (a large portion of which has not been used for any parHcul.ir purpose) should be used for diphtheria. Tho changes will be a great advantage from an administrative point of view, and also will enhance tho comfort and convenience of patients.
