CAPTAIN COOK'S LANDING
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. By TolograpU—Press Association. Gisborne, Ootobnr 8. ' Under-the auspices of the Royal Colonial Institute a gathering was held at the Cook Monument to celebrate Hie one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Captain Cook's lauding at Poverty Bay. There was a large and enthusiastic attendance, including representatives of all local bodies and school children. Bunting was flying on business establishments and the shipping was beflagged. At thi monument an address was delivered by Mr. .T. S.' Barton, vS.M., and brief speeches were made by prominent citizens. A large number of floral emblems were placed on tho monument. There wero on exhibition many historical relics, including ono of the Endeavour's four-pounders, purchased in Queensland a few months ago and now tne property of the Poverty Bay Institute; also eteel engravings of "Cook's Voyages," published in 1772.'
