LABOUR AND BUILDING
CONFERENCE TO BE CALLED. ■ The difficulty of securing labour In carry out building operations is one of the matters engaging the attention of tlio Wellington District Repatriation Board. Large numbers of returned soldiers who have married, or desire to marry, want houses'to live in, but, as everyone knows, these are not available, and owins to tho scarcity of skilled labour very few now places are going up. In order to see if some- means cannot be devised of overcoming the labour problem, the board proposes to call a conference of tihe 'Master Builders' Association, the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, and other bodies interested in the buildinir trade, at which the whole question will bo discussed. To. meet the difficulty with regard to the ehortaee of labour, the board is in hope* that an arrangement will bn .if. rived at whereby unskilled returned soldiers will bo enabled to receive traininc in the various trades connected with the building industry.
