Tho weather was glorious for the second day of the A.j.C. Spring Meeting, and there wan a record attendance, estimated at 75,000. The going wjis good. Spanner was favourite for Hie Shorts Handicap. He was prominent early in the race, but was unable to last, lie is reported to be sore. The Clibborn Stakes provided a great race, Millieme coming at a great pace from tho rear and beating Rossini on the post, liui Or, favourite for the Metropolitan Handicap, was never prominent. Afterglow appeared to have a great chance when entering the Ntraight, but finished fourth. Lordacre, Braille, Thana, and Arch Marella fell. B. Deeley rode Karo in the Squatters' Handicap, and easily accounted for the opposition, liesuits :— THE SHORT'S, of GOO sots. Six furlongs. From the start Sydney Damsel and Shaded Light wero tie first to show out. Shaded Light made most of the running from Sydney Damsel, C'etigne, Thana., and Lordacre. At the bend Afterglow went to the front, with Rebus and ICenilford coming fast. Rebus and ICcniford fought out an exciting finish from the distance. Won by a long head, with two lengths .separating ICenilford from Amazonia. Time, 2min. S23sec. STEEPLECHASE, of 500 sovs. About two miles and a half.
