FIRE IN THE CITY
OLD MAN INJURED.
About four o'clock on Saturday afternoon the fire brigade received a call to the rear of premises at 2i Abel Smith Street, where there was an outbreak of fire in a detached wash-house. The building, which had been converled' into a dwelling, -was occupied by an old man mimed George Shatlocl;, and owned by Mr. John Bowler, of Blenheim. Both the wash-house and contents—on the latter thero was no insurance—were badly damaged. The fire was caused through the explosion of ii Primus stove, which also burned Shattoek's hands. Shattock, who is a. newsvendor, was admitted to the hospital at 5.30 p.m., and at a late hour last night was reported to bo progressing fairly satisfactorily.
