rreliminnry agricultural and pastoral statistics for tho year 1918-10 nre published in tile official Abstract of Statistics. , Complete returns have been received so far from 117 counties out of the 12(i counties which constitute the Dominion. It is not anticipated that the final results I will suffer very widely from those now given. Tho following figuies show areas and yields of certain crop? for thrashing. Crops intended to chaff, hay or ensilngo are not included: Area Yield (acres), (bushels). Wheat ..... 209,-104 0.658,613 Oats 172,95:) G.9H,543 Barley 18,90.1 708,873 Maize 9,817 114^83 The yield of cocks foot was 3,76G,4921b., of ryegrass 15,279,5851b., and of potatoes 101.423 tons. The number of horses in the Dominion on January 31, 1919, is stated at 303,902; of dairy cows, in milk and dry, 820,451; of all cattle (including dairy cows), 3,021,781; nnd of pigs 235,222. The number of sheep shorn in the 1918l!l season was 23,383,220; as against 23,719,700 in. the preceding year. The number of lambs tailed in the 1918-19 season was 10,458,714, as against 11,194,1G7. The number of sheep in the country as at April"3o, 1919, was 25,823,554, as against 20,538,202 on April 30, 1918.
