FEILDING LOAN PROPOSALS

Tho Borough Council yesterday took a poll of ratepayers 011 threo proposals, namely, to borrow .45000 for a memorial, and alterations to the Squaro in' tho centre of tho town ns ft setting for the monument; iIOOO for an additional reservoir; and .£20,0 M for tarsoaling the main roads in tlie borough. There was strong opposition to tho monument question,' as many ratepayers objected to altering the Square,_ ns <% it moant diverting the roads which now go through the Square, and also because many thought the money for tho memorial should ho raised by voluntary subscription, and not borrowing, ihe reservoir was tho only proposal earned,.
