BACON FACTORY DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Sprctal Corrfispondcrtt. Carterton, October 2. A disastrous fire ocuirred at Carterton at midday, resulting in tho destruction of the Wairarapa Bacon- Factory, belonging to Mr. 8., R. Rayner. A heavy gale was raffing at the time; . Tho outbreak occurred at tho western end of the building, and fanned by tho westerly wind quickly- asumed control. All hands were at. lunch when the file was discovered, and the origin is a mystery, as tho furnace had not been used since Monday. There were about two hundred carcasses in the factory, all of which were destroyed.' The insurances were: .£3OO on the building and ,£7OO on the plant in tho Phoenix office, while the factory eompleto was valued at ,C4(WO. The destruction of tin; factory is a serious loss to Mr. Rayti'?r, and likewise to Wairarapa. PUBLIC KAIiirBURNED. By Telegraph-Press Association. \ Gisborno, October 2.
