By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, September 19. Dealirtg in grain in the local markets is still ver.v quiet and little business is being done cither in wheat or oats. Prices have altered very little for any lines, but (here is a fairly firm tone all round. The potato market seems rather unsettled. The allegations that growers ate holding back fairly large supplies are not credited by a number of merchants who admit, however, that it is extremely difficult to form nn accurate idea of what is actually held on a great many small farms. "The price offered to farmers ranges from .£9 to .€9 Ms., but few holders seem anxious to accept even the latter price. A number of smaller growers bandy to the city find it profitable lo dispose of their potatoes in small lots in fruit markets, where prices range from 17s. to 225. per bag. The grass seed market lias finned a little and values in many lines !u.ve hardened.
