H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND
PRESENTATION TO THE WARDROOM. Colonel 0. F. C. Campbell and some twenty officers of the AVellington Officers' Institute visited the New Zealand yesterday forenoon for the purpose of presenting the wardroom of the warship with a handsome solid silver cigar-box as a memento of the vessel's visit to -Wellington and the rosard in which her officers are ihold. The presentation was made by Colonel Campbell as president of the Institute, and in doing so ho emphasised the extreme loyalty to tho Mother Country of Now Zealand, and expressed tlieir admiration for the Navy in all its works. Comniaialer Calvert, of H.M.S. New Zealand, on behalf of the wardroom officers, said that New Zealand had not only shown its loyalty to the Empire by the numbers of admirable troons sent To the war-front during the past five year.", hrtt in the spirit of loyalty which had been shown them by the hospitality and many kindnesses which had been extended to them everywhere they 'had been in New Zealand. It had been the intention of the wardroom officers to invite ilio garrison officers on board to dinner, but the hospitality of those ashore hnd been 60 overwhelming that they had not been able to fit it in. After the vfsitors had partaken of the hospitality of the wardroom, the party left for tiio shore.
REPLY TO FARMERS' AVBLCOME. Tho following reply has been sent by Admiral of the Fleot Viscount Jcllicoc to the welcome extended by the delegates to tho conference of the New Zcalaud Farmers' Union:— "Deeply appreciate tho message of welcome from representatives of the Farmers' Union of New Zealand, and on behalf of the' officers and ship's company of tho gift ship of the Dominion, and for myself," shall be glad if our sincere thanks may be convoyed to the members of the union assembled in conference. We arc proud to rccoivo such testimony to tho work of the wholo British Navy and mercantile marine from such an important body, on whose efforts tho prosperity and well-being of the Dominion so largely depend.—(Sgd.) .Tellicoe."
GOOD-BYE TO H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND H.M.S. New Zealand will take her departure from Wellington this afternoon. Given lino weather there is bound ''to be a large gathering of pcoplo to see- the last of the historic batHe-cruiser as she leaves port. Many hundreds of thoso on board havo made firm friends ashore, and the' visit of the vesfel' to Wellington will do a, great deal to knit fosether tho already strong bonds of loyalty between New Zealand nnd the British Navy. From here tho New Zealand will proceed to Auckland, via the East Coast, and from Auckland she will proceed via Fiji, and, possibly. Samoa, to Vancouver. Her itinerary will thereafter involve the pasSago of tho Panama Canal to Trinidad, then across the Atlantic to Cape Town, Aden, Sue/., and 'so via the Mediterranean back to Portsmouth, where she is due on Mny 1 next.
