The Government is applying the antiproliteering raeasures rigorously; There h.ive been a''hundred convictions in a month, in the Department of the Seine alone; ' The police are visiting shops and nointintr out unnecessarily high prices, and their visits often result jn prices liciiiic lowered. The profits are, however, so large that no punishment: stops some men takinir a risk, though fines may be 200.000 francs and imprisonment .may be five years. The Government's measures could not bo more drastic. . They include the publication of the names of. all offenders and notices posted on the doors of his dwelling, shop, or factory.
