At-a conference between the directors of the company and the'l'ederation of Labour the former submitted an offer to increase the pay for waterside work from Is. Gd. an hour ordinary and Is. lOd. overtime to Is. lOd. and 2s. fld. respectively, the payment for cement work to be on the same basis as -the Northern Cement Union's award. The offer was rejected by a mass meeting yesterdav. A further conference will, be held at Wellington, and there are hopes of a satisfactory settlement. Meanwhile the works remain idle.
