5 . FURTHER REFERENCE IN PARLIA* MENT. ' . ■".:. A telegram from a Dunedin manufac- ' turer. pointing out the loss that wa3 being suffered by industry owing to the shortage of coal, was read by Mr. C. K. Statham (Dunedin Central) in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. Statham asked what the Government was doing to overcome a difficulty that was likely to produce a lot of unemployment in the country if allowed to continue. The Prime Minister replied that he did not think it wiso to give the.information asked for. He would 6ay merely that everything it was possible to do was being dono to put an end to the present difficulty. He knew that if a remedy was not-found there would he hardship and unemployment,owing to the shortage of coal. Mr. C. J. Parr (Eden)': There is already. Mr. Massey: Yes. I hope I shall 'be able to give the House some nows of what is being done in a day or two. 11 would .rather not do it at present.
