FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Tho Mayor (Mr. J, V. Luke),- Councillors H. A. Wright, P, Fmser, J. Hutchison, C. 11. Chapman, J. 31. Dele, J. 0. ShorJand, M. F. Luckie, L. M'Xenzie, T. Forsyth, A. B. Atkinson, W. 11. Bennett, C. B. Norwood, W.'J. Thompson, and Gsorgo Frost were present at the fortnightly meeting of the City Council last evening. The following recommendations of tho Finance Committee were adopted:— That, subject to the owners of property abutting on to.Luke's Lane contributing half tho estimated cost of putting the way in order) tho work bs put in hand. The total estimated cost is .i; 250.
That tho request /of the Defence Department for ii reduction in the rent of the Kluindnllah Hull be not acceded to. The committee also reported; (1) That the committee- are of' opinion that tho housing scheme as adopted by .the council | is the one that shouM l:o pursued. (2) That they have received a' report from the Acting-City Engineer approving , tho memorial proposed to be erected at tho triangular reserve at tho top of Aro .Street to commemorate the men of (ho Mitchciitown district who have fallen in action. (3) The committee have to recommend- that authority be now granted for snmc to bo 'erected. The Outlying Districts Committee reported that they had received a deputation representing the residents of Thorby Street, with reference to better access facilities to such street. The matter had been referred to the City Engineer's Department for report. The Reserves Committee reported :— "That they have received a report from lh" Director of Parks and Kcservps with reference to the formatipn of a recreation ground for Wudestowii. The committee will take an early opportunity of visiting 1 the sito one! of bringing down a report thereon to tho council. "That they have referred tho request of the Island Bay Electors' Association for the establishment' of boat sheds to Hie- City Engineer with a request for a report as to available- sites and sketch de.'-hri] of suitable shed, i'or approval. "That they have considered a request from Mr. Billson for tho establishment of lint salt water baths. Mr. Dillsnn is being thanked for his interest, and tho eonimiltee will consider the question at.a later date. "That the \fai\ of the proposed mraiorill to be erected at Snsror Txiiif Hill by I lie .Brooklyn Returned Soulier.-*' Association be approved."
