RUGBY FOOTBALL

NEW ZEALAND UNION NORTH AND SOUTH ISLAND MATCH The Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union met last night, when there wero present; Messrs. J. A. Slade, A. C. Kittu, .IV. W. Cook, G. Howe, and Captain T. H. Jones. Mr. Slado was voted to the chair. The first business of the meeting was a letter from tho Wellington itugby Union asking whether .season ticlsetholder's would be admitted free to'the Athletic Pack on Saturday on the occasion of the North v, South Island match. With the exception of lifo members and delegates to the special meeting of the .N.Z.R.F.U., it was decided' that ticket-holders be admitted tree, but that no guarantee could be given tliat seats in tho grandstand woulu be reserved. . It was resolved' 1 to entertain the members of the visiting teams to dinner alter the match. Captain Jones was appointed 'to th; vacanoy on the Referees' Appointment Board caused by the resignation of Mr. B. A. Harris.

The committee decided to play a match between Wellington and Oriental seniors' as n "curtaiii-raiser" to tho North v. South Island' match. The teams will pby oif-for the "wooden spoon" of tho Wellington Rugby Union's championship. The following coaches were appointed in connection with the North v.' South Island match:—North Island: F. Roberts (backs); A. J. Griffiths (forwards). South Island: J.'N. Millard (oacks), H. Paton (forwards). Messrs. E. Wylic, G. H. Dixon, and A. Laurenson lunvnrded their resignations as trustees of tho New Zealand Rugby, Union. Messrs.. Slade, Cook, and Howe were appointed to fill the vacancies. Correspondence was received from tho New • South' Wales and South African Unions, with regard to dates for future conferences on Rugby matters, and it was decided that tho letters should be referred to Friday's meeting of delegates for'consideration. The Manawatu Union notified that it liad disqualified for life a player who hod struck a referee and who had used -•obscene language, and another player for life who had come on to the iicld alter being ordered off for knocking a player unconscious. '. . . . ~ ; It was decided to approve the disqualifications. , ' The Sports Protection League l wrote requesting tho union to 'send delegates to a special meeting of sports bodies to bo called for the purpose of discussing the amateur status./ The committee agreed to send delegates to the meeting.

Information lias been received that W. Laxon (Auckland), who was selected as full-back for the North Island team in the match against the South Is and, broke Ills' collarbono in the AueklnndTaranaki> match on Saturday.
