"GOODY TWO SHOES." Tho second performance of "Goody Two ■ Shoes," by the Williamson Company, drew n very large audience to tho Grand Opera llouso tast night. This year's pantomime is as good as ever, It has all the tilings that a wcli-eouceivcd pantomime t-liuuld have, and also a good many of tho things that go to the making of a first-class variety show. It had great ivwiltli of beautiful costumes, worn by young ladies adapted by nature for tho wearing of such raiment. Its musie Is pretty, its scenic effects are charming, and its fun is abundant. Tho major portion of tho comedy elomcnt is supplied by Mr. Arthur Stigant, as tho Dame, and Mr. Fred Walton as the Toy Soldier. Jl r. Walton's work is line pantomime, for lie has not a word to speak in the wholo programme, and he makes his points by gesture and expression. His is an exceedingly amusing and very clover performance. Miss Dorothy Hastings, Miss Madeleine Harrison. Miss Toby Claude, and life: Floio Alien all do justice to their parts. Miss Maggie Dickenson's dancing is again a feature of the pantomime. Tho cliorus is a very strong one, and the concerted items nro bright and spirited. Tho speciality nets introduced during tho evening include Mr. Walton's toy soldiers. Madam Jewell's marionettes, tho Kennti Brothers, a Toy-land scene, and a Kirchner ballet. The pantomime is to bo repeated each evening during tho week. There- will be a matinee on Wednesday. Temple White, will produce for the iirst time irt Wellington Sir Edward Elgar's "The Spirit or''England," written for soprano • soto, chorus, and orchestra, in three sections, viz., "The Fourth of August," "To Women," and "For the Fallen." Speaking of this work, a contemporary remarks that it may-he truthfully termed a nianumental example of one of the world's geniuses. The war hns brought into existence much excellent music written by tho best of Great. Britain's composers, but nothing comparable to this, which stands alone in its loftiness of aim and grandeur of conception. "The Spirit of England" will bo preceded by Mendelssohn's always popular oratorio "A Hymn of Praise." The soloists for the occasion are Miss Teresa M'Enroc, who will s.ing the so'prano solos in both works, Mrs. Tunley, and Mr. Martin Duff.
