' The game proved very interesting, and resulted in a win for the northerners by 23 points to IG. In the first spell the scoring was egual, Taranaki obtaining a penalty goal and converting a' try and Auckland scoring two tries, one being convorted. Tar<v naki had, if anything, the/better of the play in this spell, particularly in the forwards, but in the early stages of .the second, half the Auckland backs got effectually to work, breaking down the home team's defonce and scoring fouitries in rapid succession, none being converted. Taranaki then rallied and confinod their opponents to their twentylive for quite u time, during which the local men scored two tries, one being converted. This made the scores: Auckland 20, Taranaki Ifi. In the latter part the Aucklanders threw the ball about and passed magnificently, scoring another. trv and making their score 23.
