THIS WEEK'S WORK The House of Representatives will meet again to-morrow afternoon. The Legislative Council will not meet until Thursday afternoon. Sever.il matters await the attention of the-House. The debate on tho second reading of the Board of Trade Bill waa adjourned on ■ Friday night. Many members wish to speak regarding tho cost of living, profiteering, and the protection of consumers' interests. The discussion on the report of tho Industries Committee is to be resumed on Wednesday evening. The second reading of the Women's Parliamentary 'llights Extension Bill (Mr. Massey) is .likely to he taken during the week. This Bill, which has not yet been circulated, proposes to give women the right to eit in both branches of the Legislature. The principle is believed to be favoured by a majority of tho members of the House of but the attitude of the Legislative Council is uncertain. The Chattels Transfer Amendment Bill, tho Public Authorities (Party Wall) Empowering Bill, and tho Official Appointments and Documents Bill, which nave been passed by tho Council, are on the Orderpaper of the House.

THE GRATUITIES. Tho decision of the Government regarding gratuities is to be announced to the House this week. Tho matter was further considered by Cabinet on Saturday. 'Jjho money required for the payment of gratuities is included ill the War Loan now being raised, but authority for tho cxyenditure will be required.] ' ■ THE BUTTER ARRANGEMENT, The members representing dairying districts are still without detailed information regarding the arrangement that U to be made between the Government and the butter producers. The Prime .Minister has stated definitely that the factories wihich aro supplying butter to tho local market aro going to receive the full export price, and that the price to tho local consumers will "hot bo increasnd. This means that the difference between the local wholesale price and tho oxoort prico must be made good by the Government in some way. THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT. Tho Financial Statement is not yet quito ready for presentation to the House, and it is not likely to make its appearance this week, I'lie custom of the Government is to distribute copies of the Statement by post, lor delivery to ail newspaper offices simultaneously. The .scanty train services mean delayed mails,, and the circulation of the Budget under present conditions will occupy several days.
