THE SHORTAGE OF SKILLED LABOUR
Sir,—l was pleased to sea that tlio Hon. Mr. Earnshaw in .the. Legislative Couricil'Toieraxd to tlio slioitage'of tradesmen in Wellington, and considered that the high •wages paid on tho waterfront, which attracted skilled as well as unskilled labour, was partly the cause, i. know this iB only too true, and it should not 'exist now, as tho unskilled worker does not get the samo hearing owing to the increased competition of tho respective tradesmen working there. Wo havo now dozens nioro looking: lor work on the-waterfront, aud when tradesmen (in most trades) could have been, and couM be employed lor months at tjieir skilled work they'should bo tho last to receive a job when labour is called for. I hope this meets tlhe eye of our Parliamentarians, and possibly something will bo 'done whereby these men might us induced to go back to their traaes and let the building, which is needed, proceed apace.-I am, etc..
