CHARGE OF COAL HOARDING
SUBSTANTIATION LACKING. Mr. J. Jlead, a labour candidato for political honours,.recently made tho public assertion that a memlwr of tlie Welfare League had stowed away sixteen tons of coat all his residence last Easter. A Dominion representative yesterday inquired whether the Wellington Coal Trade Committee had investigated this alleged instance of "hoarding." The secretary, Mr. R. S. Johnston, said thad a week ago the committee hnd infracted him to write to Mr. Read asking for .nnrticuln'rs <>f the ense. Jlo had done no, but so far Mr. Read had not replied. The reporter referred Mr. Johnston's statement to Mr. Rea4, whoso commeii!; was: "I do not feel disposed to hand over to tho committco information that was given to me confidentially."
