ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS SOCIETY
At a meeting of the Wellington Accountant St-udcilis" Society', held last evening, an interesting paper on "Functions of Banks" was read by Mr. 11. P. Mauraat, A.1.8. (N.S.W.). fle gave a brief outline .of the history of banking from 'the Babylonian period, KlOfl years n,c., to tho present institutions, and indicated tho great' developments that had taken place, Ho instanced tho beneficent effect of well-condmfced banking operations, and tlio loss and distress resulting from abuse of a bank's powers. At the conclusion of the rending, Mr. Jlaurant answered numerous questions, and was accorded a hoarty vote of thanks.
