— —9 STATEMENT BY GENEEAE ALLENBY.Paris, September 9. General Allenby, interviewed at Marseilles, said there was no conflict over tho arrest of Emir Said for active pro-, posanda against the Allies. The French local authorities simply protested against tho arrest, as Emir Said was a French protege; but they agreed to his expulsion if he was liberated. (Eec. September 11, 0.15 a.m.) General Allenby added that Emir Said was arrested for disregarding the regulations. Ho had defied martial law, and worked against the administration of the military occupation. The question was exclusively a military one. Britain had no ambitions in respect to Syria, and had always refused to a.sk for a mandate, recognising that that right 'belonged to France. All was now quiet in Syria — Aus.-N.Z.
