The Trade Union Congress at Glasgow debated the Parliamentary Committee's report deprecating a special confcrcnoo on direct action. After Mr. Brownlio had justified hid letter, Jlr. Smillie moved to refer Mia report bacii. Air. Sunning, t:he president, said thai, •if- the motion wero carried it might bo 'interpreted as a vote in favour of direct action. Tho motion was carried by 2,55G,0!K) votes to 1,870,000. The result was not regarded as committing the congress to direct action, hut as u protest against the recent attacks on Mr. Smillio and the assertion that he was not supported by tho general mass of trade unionists. —Aus.-N.Z.
