DOMINION EXPORTS
A HUGE INCREASE; The Government Statistician (Mr. M. Eraser) reports a Jiugo increase in , the value of ftew Zealand exports for the twelve months ended July. 31, 1919. Tho figures, with those for the like twelve months of 1917-18, arc as follow:— 1917-18 £29,372,954 1918-19 ; £41,270,339 Increase, 1918-19, £11,903,385. In respect to wool (paid for "prompt, i.e.. U days after valuation) and meat and dairy produce (advanced against be-, foro shipment), some deductions must be / made from the, roundly, £12,000,000 ox-' cess returns, inasmuch as the money .will liavo gone into: circulation; bur. the greatly improved, cargo shipping facilities during the, past twelve months have materially aided the export of .tallow, hides, pelts, hemp, and other valuable produce. The above figure* relate to produce of the Dominion only. ' ' Imports likewise show an increase,.but not in volume.' Tho imports for tho first seven months of 1918 were valued at . Cl 3 391,105; those for the first seven months of 1919 at £17,583,778, an increase in valuo of £1,194,613; but tho volume, that is, the goods themselves, has been greatly reduced, especially from America, where tho rate of exchange is against tho Dominion. That is to say, less°goods have been supplied, but mow money paid for them.
