The subject of railway running was referral to in the House of Representatives last nirht bv tho new Minister of Railways (Mr: Massey) in reply to a question.
Mr. A. M. Myers askeil whether it was the intention of the Prime Minister to follow the custom previously observed of eivinir to tho nublic tho quantities of coal held by tho Railway Department every week.
Mr. Masses said that he was not aware of what, had been done, but the practice i referred to seemed to be an excellent one. The Dosition regarding coal supplies for the railways was very much better than it had been a fortnight or threo weeks aeo. Thn General Manager had informed him that dav that but for the fact tbftt the outlook for local supplies was not so cood as it ought to bo, it would soon be tiossiblo to resume normal running. In the meantime, on account of tho outlook, it was necessary to go cautiously, but ali the time the position was improving. So for as tho carriage of goods was concerned there was littlo to complain abput now. and he hoped that at tho beginning of nest week it would be possible to make it, considerable improvement in .the arraneements.
