PROGRESS OP DEMOBILISATION. London, September 2. Senator Pcarco lakes exception to tho figures recently quoted in the Senate purporting to deal with demobilisation of Australian soldiers beforo and after his. anrival in England. Senator Pearca 'state.? that at the signing of the armistice there were 153,108 troops in Europe. Between tho signing of tho (irmisiaw and the end of January 34,(111 soldiers, munition workers, and dependants ombarked for Australia, and up to tho end of March, twelvo days after Senator Pearce's arrival, this number reached 53,280, averaging 10,057 monthly. From April 1 to August 19 89,351 embarked, averaging 17,671! monthly. Arrangements had now been completed to ship 18,000 soldiore and their dependnnts in September. This speeding up will enable Senator Poarco to return, three weeks' earlier than anticipated.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assu.
