NO SCARCITY OF TAR
STATEMENT BY THE'MAYOR. At last ovcning's meeting of the City Council the Mayor (Mr. J. 1\ Luke) said that ho had made a statement to llio Press thnt there was a shortage of tar during last summer. That, it .appeared, was not 60. Tho Gas Company 6tato that they had any amount of tar. Ho had been under the impression lhat such a shortage did exist, nnd ho regretted exceedingly that his impression had been a wrong one, .is ho had no intention of doing any harm or .causing anv jnconvenienco or monetary loss to tho* company. Councillor M'lvcnzio: flavo they got tar now? Tho Mayor: "I ibeiievo they have plenty- of tar." Tho Mayor also stated that he had n communication from a company at Wangamii offering largo quantities of tar for tho'requirements of the' city roads.
