People who in the pas) may have been careless with "respect to jar containers belonging to'manufacturers of cordials, etc., will find the following report of n case heard at the Newtown (Sydney) Polico Court interesting:—At the Newtown Police Court, Nem Shapirn, a sec-ond-hand denier, was proceeded against bv P. Ivillick. manager for Sharps Brothers, cordial manufacturers, on a charge of retaining n jar, tho property of Shnrpo Brothers. The defendant was ordered by the Court to'deliver, the jar, or its vaiue, witliin one hour, in default three days' imprisonliient, and was to pay prosecutor's costs, .£2 Bs., in default i 4 davs' imprisonment. Er. Croaiwell, who appenre<l for Sharps Brothers, informed ilie Court Hint Sharpe Brothers di«tribnted beverages in one-gallon jars. Tho contents only were sold, the jnrs bailiff simply lent to customer.-) until contents were consumed. No deposits were charged on tlieui. He pointed out thai: these jars were a costly item in the firm's business. Shnrpo .Brothers used every means in their power lo see that the public.was informed of the fact that the jars were, t'heir property—a caution was burnt on each jar, which read: "Persons damaging, trading with, retaining, or misappropriating the use of this jar will be prosecuted." In addition to this the firm advertised a warning periodically in tho newspapers, and had recently cautioned all auctioneers, dealers, lioleikeepers, boatmen, etc., by circular. The defendant admitted that when Sharpe Brothers demanded the jar he refused to give it up, but stated that he hud offered fo supplv the imiiie and address of llie woman from whom he had bought
