Last Saturday three drovers, F. -\V, M'Leau, Alan Stuwnrt, and H. Pryor, travelling ..* from Te Puke, drove a mob of horses across the flooded river, following on themselves. When at mid-stream, Pryor's horse got into difficulties, unseating Pryor, who was wearing a heavy oilcoat. He was carried away by the flood. Ho got' a temporary footing on a sandepit; but lost itßKain and was ewent out into the breakers. M'Lean and Stewart, after having landed safely, galloped to the rescue. M'Lean, telling Stowart to stand ashore, swam out to Pryor and soon signalled for assistance, whereupon Stewart, who was waiting in tho breakers up.to the armpits, also swam out,' and together they landed their mate . safely. . .
