WAIRARAPA (From Our Special Correspondent.)' Yesterday afternoon a pleasing function took p.aco at M.ostei'ton District High School, when, on behalf of the Navy league Mr. B. Ke'esing, of Wellington, presented the sciiool with a Now Zea.and Ensign. At the same time he' handed to the Mayor, Mr, W. H. Jaclcsoh, a. souvenir froin the oliicers and men of tho cruiser New Zealand in the shape of mi enlarged photograph of the battleship, in recognition of the invitation from Mastcrton to tho Admiral and Staff. The new totalisator house on,the Masterton racecourse, which is iifti'ring completion, contains over thirty windows, and is situated on- the site formerly occupied by the people's stand. Other improvements being effected on the cour.se include the enlarging of the stewards' stand and the :):«:« v„: jjsihi'if.r.. Under the auspices of the Progressive League, an operatic concert is to 3>o held in the Masterfon Opera. House to-mor-row night. The programme includes selections from (he most popular comic operas, and an opportunity is to be taken of making a presentation to Mr. E. J. Young, who is leaving the district, and who was. until recently, president of the Progressive League.
