WAIRAItAPA The Carterton Borough Couacil has decided to make application to have the borough revalued, Application is to be made by the Carterton Borough Council for permission to raise a loan of JC16,0&0 for tho purpose of erecting a Municipal Town Hall, and the Public Trustee is to be approached to ascertain whether the money will bo available.
At a meeting of Court Marquis of Norma nby, A.O.l I '., on Wednesday evening, Bro. T. B. Worntll wiis presented with a past officer's emblem and neck, ribbon. in order to conserve the supply of coal, thu Carterton Borough Council has cut out tlio street lighting, with tile exception'of five lights in the ccnt;e of 'tlio town.
On Saturday evening at Mastsrton Mr. J. A. Betts (general manager) presided at the first annual dinner of tiie Wairarupa Fanners' Co-op. Association, Stock Department. About eighty number,? of tho firm were present, including repre. sentatives from .Woodvillo, Pahiatua, Ciinnevirke, Eketahuna, Carterton, Maryborough, and Wellington. The firm's solicitors and bank were also represented, itr. Herman Crass superintended the catering for the dinner, following which a comprehensive toast list was honoured. During the evening occasion <vas taken to present Mr. P. 0. Clarke, of . the Dannevirke branch, with a set of golf sticks to mark his retirement fi-oiu tho firm. The toasts were interspersed with songs, aaid the .music was supplied by an orchestra conducted by Mr. Spencer Compton. A nogey match played on tue Mastertoil golf links on Saturda- resulted as follows: J. H. M'Oalden (handicap 9), 1 down; H. H. Dawson (handicap >11), 2 down; T. H. Horton (scratch), 2 down; A. C. Major (handicap 9), 2 down. Ten building permits, representing ■MOM 25.. were granted by tlio Masterton Borough Council during August. During tho month of August the Mastorton Borough Council granted twentyone licenses for motor-cars anil cycles..; The -recent rains have caused a flood in many of tho rivers in the Wairarapa, notably in the Ruiunalninga llivei:. which overflowed its banks in parts. . No bankruptcies were recorded in Masterton during the month of August, At a meoting of the Master-ton brandi of the New Zealand Educational Institute on Saturday a resolution was passed urging tlio appointment of teachers on a scheme which would enable applicants to apply for positions in any part of tho Dominion, no matter what thair place of residence. _ At a meeting of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society, hold on Friday night at Carterton, threo tenders were received for tho sale of .£l5O. Messrs. S. Davies (as agent) and C. Woodbury each tendered .£72, and, in accordance with tiie rules, a ballot was held, and resulted in favour of Mr. Davies's tender being accepted. Pte. f N. Nicholils, who has been under treatment at hospital in Kotonia, returned to his home at Carterton on Friday. Blr. M'Kenzio, postmaster at Greytown, loft on transfer on Friday to ltaetihi. No bankruptcies were recorded in tho Wairarapa during tho past month.
