LABOUR FOLLY
Sir—Labour's latest folly is their re fusal to load potatoes for Australia. I does not. vouch much for their solidflritj uor does it uphold their doctrines of pul together in any. shape or fonn. , Las year when potatoes were dear here seyera boat-loads were landed from Australia t tone down our cost of living. This yell our lumpers refuse to load for the othe side, though over there tho workers some of whom have been on striko fo months,' are paying _ a fabulous pncc Labour practically refuses to be democra tie and help their comrades on thoothe side. This attitude kills all spirit o reciprocity, but it will bite both ways however, and it will be interesting li watch how tho lumpers over in Australii will perform when tho position is re versed. There are ample supplies of thi tubers in this country at' present, thi moderately high price being due to rai and maritime difficulties. Potato-grower in' Auckland were encouraged by thi absence of blight last no frosts, uuc a good price, and comfcquently nearlj double tho usual area has been planted mid. fully a month earlier, so that till ■uipply for this year is assured. Further more, people will not eat old tubers wliiU tho new are on the market, 'hence f slump must occur before Christmas, ii outlet is restricted, which will not en courage the producer to increase the area in tho futuro.—l am, etc., J. JACKSON.
