Drizzling rain rather spoiled play, making the ground a.nd ball gronsy. In the .first game Southland dofeated Timaru by 9to G. The scores at halftime wero even, Mackenzie (Soxithland) kicking ii gotd from it junrk and Don (Timaru) 6coring a try. In fclie third quarter Morgan scored a fine try for South' land. Timaru attacked nearly all tlio last quarter, but failed to soore. In "the final game Otago l defeated Christchurch by Hto nil. The first spell was pretty even. At half-lime v tho score was 5 to nil, a try by Townsend converted by Dickensou. In tlie eecond half Otago were much euperior to their opponents. Towneond scored two trice and Keilia one. Otngo adapted their play to tho wet ground, but Christchurch attempted too much passing with the greasy ball. ' , LEAGUE MATCHES ARRANGED. Auckland, August 28. The Council of the New Zealand Football League has arranged that, if grounds aro available, the Australians will pluy Hawke's Bay on September 27, and an additional game at Wellington , on October 1.
