The Feilding Borough Council has decided to raise a loan of ,£35,000, to be allocated as follows:—,£ 10,000, increasing the water supply; JH20,000, street improvements; and J!M00, war memorial. Early on Friday morning n big block of buildings, occupied by Mr. J. Porter a" a general store at Apiti, was completely destroyed by fire, only tho books being saved. Mr. Porter was a very heavy loser, as he was carrying a large stock at the time of the outbreak. The Public Library, in conjunction with the store I was also destroyed, and 1200 books wore J lost. Tho building was the most conj spicuous one in Apiti, covering a quarter I of an acre.
