FATALITY AT A MINE
MAN KILLED BY A FALL OF CLAY. Br. Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, August 26. Robert William Smith, married, aged 53 years, residing nt Brighton, employed at the local coal mine, was working today when a slab of clay from the roof struck him down against the hard coal, causing a deep gasli in the left temple. He'ivas apparently -suffocated while unconscious. An incniest was opened for identification and adjourned; Tho mine has been closed down-mean-while. About a dozen men had'ten employed sinco the mine was opened early this year. Deceased came from Canada five years ago, and went to Brighton in February. He was nn experienced miner. Ho lias left a widow, two daughters, and a son, who has not yet returned frcai the war.
