A J KRAFT RETURNS BY GIESSEN. o j. )' i Tho transport Giessen, with 105S troops i- on board from Europe, berthed at the t King's Wharf at 10.50 o'clock yesterday I .1 morning. Two gangways were used for the disembarkation of the troops, all of c whom were ashore by 11.30 a.m. There y was a large number of next-of-kiu and 3i friends in attendance at the wharf, and a ' the returning men were enthusiastically received. As they came ashore they were cordially welcomed by the Mayor (Jfr. : J. 11.I 1 . Tiiike) and Mrs. Luke, and a coing mittee of ladies distributed gifts of fruit and cigarettes. Excellent work in taking the Welling- '■ ton city men, of whom there were 355 ou j- board, to tiheir homes was performed by I- the Voluntary Motor Corps. About 80 •• motorists were in attendance, and under '• the supervision of Captain AV. Pryor and e Mr. H. G. Sto'ct, they did a most praise- '■ worthy duty in very rapid time, t The disembarkation of the- troops and & the entraining of those for districts north I' of Wellington were conducted under the ' 0 orders of Contain G. Prictor, Military R Landing Officer. A special train left 1 Thomcfon at 12.30 p.m. with the troops : a for Palmcrston North, Napier,- New Ply- j > ■mouth, and Auckland, and the Waira- | i- rapa men left by train from Lambton !• Station at 4.28 p.m. Details for Nelson Q mid north of Westport sailed by, tho o Nikau at 5 p.m., and the majority of e the rest of the South Islanders left by i- tho Muraroa last nipht. Tlie Mnpouriku n will sail with the Pjcton and Blenheim f men at noon to-day.
