TRANSFERS AND PROMOTIONS. Tho following promotions and transfers in tho Police Force, upproved by tho Hon. T. AT. Wiltord, as Minister of Justice, on Friday last, and now approved by the Governor-in-Oouucil, were mentioned by Mr. Wilford yesterday.
On account of tho retirement of Superintendent Kiely, of Auckland, it has been found necessary to make these promotions.
Inspector M'Grnth, of Napier, has been promoted to bo superintendent, and will take chargo of the Dunedin district in place of Superintendent Wright, who will take tho place vacated by Superintendent Kiely, at Auckland. v Inspector Marsack, of Wellington, will be transferred '.o Napier to take the place vacated by (now) Superintendent M'Grath
' Sub-Inspectors Broberg and M'llveney havo been promoted to bo inspectors, and will remain in Wellington' at present. Sub-Inspector M'llveney taking tho placo vacated by Inspector Marsnck, and Inspector Broberg remaining in his present position in the Commissioner's office. A new 1 -district has been created at Tinmrn. includingthesnrroundingstations, which will bo conducted by Sub-Inspec-tor Hastie, promoted to '.liq rank of mspector. He is already stationed at Timaru. This promotion will mean the appointment of'another sub-inspec-tor: tho duties of such position will ba carried ou'. by Inspector Hastie. Senior-Sergeant Emerson (Wellington) has been promoted to tlie position of sul> inspector, and will remain in Wellington, filling the position vacated by Inspector M'llveney.
