STRANGE BANKRUPTCY CASE
MAN WITH A DEFECTIVE MEMORY. Bj TelejraDb-Press Association. Auckland, August 25. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of W. R. Hill, alias J. H. Jonnston, who was sentenced to IS months' imprisonment last week 011 charges of obtaining credit by fraud in 11)14, was held to-day. The Official Assignee presided. Tho bankrupt was present in custody. 'l'ho assignee said that as th«re was no quorum of creditors'present, no lesolution could be passed, but the bankrupt could be examined on any matter relating to his bankruptcy. The* bankrupt urated that owing to jis detective memory ho could not supply oven a list of itis creditors. Summonses, ami accounts in possession of the bankrupt's solicitor and the police 6howed liabilities amounting to itOS-i, but other firms were atlectcd, and it was impossible to say what tho total liabilities would be. Among the,firms were Kayc and Carter, Christchureh; Field and Royds, Christchurch; Home and Co., Dunedm; Hairoway and Sons, Dunedin; Eraser and Co., Dunedin; Bray Bros.. Dunedin; Alilligan and Bond, Oauiaru; Ireland and Co., Oamaru; Hamilton • and Sons, Oauiaru; Buxton'and Co., Timara; Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Associalion, Tiinaru; Corry and Co., Blenheim; H. A. Boyd, Asliburton; Goldingham and Beckett, Palmerston North; .Jloddbi* and Tolley, Palmcrslon North; Anderson ami Broad, Marton. Of tlie it appeared that .£149 related to bankrupt's transactions in 191 A, and the remainder from April to June of this year. Bankrupt had a credit of ,£521 at the bank. Examined by t lie Oilicnil Assignee tho bankrupt said his right name was John Hore. His wife lived in Sydney, and iio had a grown-up lamily. The inwtin? was adjourned.
