NOTES AND COMMENTS.
(By Glencoe.) Owners are reminded that acceptanccs for the Morton and Dannevirke Meetings close to-morrow night. Mr. Ga'ino Carnngton, of Gisborne, has disposed of the imported stallion Gazeley (sir of Gazique) to Mr. J. H. Whitaker for SOOghs. Gazeley's new home will be in tho Taranaki district. Eangi Aroha, by Elysian—Te Aroha, changed owners during tho Grand National Meeting. She is now an inmate of T. 11. Gillett's stable, and she will be raced at West Coast meetings iater in the season. The five-year-old mare Elocution, by Demosthenes—Eangiao, has been purchased by the Wingatui trainer, J. Stewart. She is a useful galloper, who should pay her way in the south. Sonnino has been having an easy time of it since the National Meeting., The big gelding .calhe through tho southern trip very well, and he looks none the worse for the three hard races he had at Eiccarton. Matatua, who was given a few days spell after the Wellington Meeting, is. again galloping freely at Trentham, and he will be a runner in the Flying Handicap at Marton. The Birkenhead gelding always races well when fresh. C. Pritchard will probably start for Marton about Wednesday. Bonny Maid, who has just recommenced work at Trentham, bears a very robust appearance, which suggests that she has benefited greatly by her spell. She and her stable companion Battle Song are both engaged in the New Zealand Cup, but as yet it is not known which of the tw,o will cany the colours of Mr. P. Soames. j. The Treutham trainer, J. Ayree, took ill at the conclusion of the C.J.C. Winter Meeting, and so far he has been unable to get back home. His horses were brought back in charge of H. Howe, who will superintend them until the return of stheir trainer. - Unfortunately, Mrs. Ayres is also seriously ill at rrcntham. i m Tho 'chaser Polthogue is still (it Trentham. His owner has decided that a walk to Hawera. is out of the question, so the juniper will remain at Trentham until the Eailway Department again carries horses. . J. M'Laughlin is shortly building new stables at Trentham. Tho situation is in close proximity to the racecourse, and there will be twelve boxes in the new building. . . , , T ■ Eed Signal is again m work at lientham and looks bright and fresh after The' iwo-year-olds' in work at Trentham are well ■ forward and several ot them have already been extended over three furlongs. On Saturday. Teller (Bezonian— Sea Queen), and the Boniforni colt belonging to Mr. 1. Soames were sprinted threo fuilongs, and the former moved very pleasing. Mcnelatis, who bears a veiy buily appearance, was allowed to run along over half a mile on Saturday, m company with Mascot. Both animals moved freely. A.' Eeod has again been engaged to ride for.the.Messrs. Eiddiford and Mi. Loring during the present fiea» t»s brother Eov, who is also m residence at Trentham, 'has refused severa retainers, and will remain a free lance this soason. In order to keen the condition on beadown he is being: hacked about the wads, at Trentham, but it will probablv be a couple of months before he goes into strong work again. ,
