IN GRATITUDE TO THE AUSTRALIANS

MEMORIAL TABLET FROM VILLERS BRETON'NEUX. London, August 22, Tho inhabitants of Villers Bretonneux presented Senator Pearce with, a beautiful memorial tablet, commemorating Hie brave deeds of the Australians in April, 191 S. The Mayor stated that tho gift was the least expression of their gratitude compared with tho brilliant feats accomplished by the sons of Australia. Nevertheless the offering ■was one of real sincerity. Australians could rest assured that the burial places of their sons on French soitl would always b« respected and eared for. Senator Pearce has arranged to send the laKet to Australia, and it will probably be placed in the war ijiuseum.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
