SOLDIERS REFUSE TO EMBARK
SERVICE IN DISTANT THEATRES . NOT RELISHED. i (Rec. August 24, 5.5 p.m.) London, August 22. Throe hundred men of the Warwick, Berkshire, and Gloucestershire regimenfa refused to piirade at Southampton for embarkation to Franco, believing that they would be sent to distant theatres, especially Russia. The Berkshires and other troops who refused to embark at Southampton were intende'd for Turkey. They spent a night in the park and then were conveyed to camp under an armed escort—Aus.-N.Z. Fivo hundred ex-soldiors at Manchester intend to march on London, accompanied by a band and bannor&-tho march occupying sixteen days—as an appeal to the Minister of Labour for employment at a living wage, and also increased unemployment pay.—Aus.-N.Z.
