NAPIER GAOL
VISIT OF INSPECTION. By Tclcerapli.—Vresp Association Napier, August 22. ' A representative of the Press to-day .obtained permission to make an inspection of the Napier Gaol from the Chief Inspector .of Prisons (Mr. C. Matthews). The reporter found that the whole establishment was in a most clean condition. as clean, probably, a? ' : any hotel or boardiiirthouse in the Dominion. Everything was iu apple, pie order, and reflected Hie greatest credit on those whoso duty if is to keep the institution in order. The building is old, certniii'.y, but the timber is all found, and no possible exception could be taken lo any portion ol tho building or any of the arrangements. Mr. Scanlon, gaoler, accompanied tho reporter over Hie premises, and Messrs. ,T. V. Brown, M.P.. and M. Murray. lown clerk, both of whom arc jnstics of the peace, were present without notification. Every part ill the gaol was visited, and nothing was found that could possibly be construed into supporting' such s.latemenls a.s have recently been made'by tho ilev. J. K. Archer.
