BRITAIN'S INDUSTRIAL PERIL
• A SOLEMN WARNING. London, July 28. A most solemn warning against strikes and other paralysing influences appeared in the "Evening News" in an interview with Sir E. S. Home (Minister for Labour). "Unless there is a great awakening," tho Minister declares, "the nation which proved in war time its capacity for sacrifice will descend to disaster through failure to use its victory wisely. It would have been better to have been beaten on the battlefield, returning chastened, to retrieve its fortunes by persistent toil. No class is free from criticism, Manv manufacturers are profiteering, and workmen are refusing to work adequately. Tho cost of living drains every pocket, and the lack of production makes it impossible to meet current obligations. "Failing the most intense all-round effort. England will be ruined more effectively than it tho Germans had overrun and devastated the country. Any man not prepared for the greatest effort mocks our dead."
