RAILWAYS WORKING ACCOUNT
Tho revenue and expenditure on railways working account from April 1, 1919, to July 19, 1919, published in last evening's "Gazette," shows that tho North Island lines yielded a revenue of £1,001,227 2s. Bd., and the South Island lines j5753,'1G5 9s. 7d., making a total ol £1,757,092 12s. 3d., as compared with £1,550,909 2s. -Id, for the corresponding period of last year, an increase ot £200,783 9s. lid., towards which tin.. North Island lines contributed £105,25u Its. Sd. and tho South Island lino, £101,527 15s. 3d.
Tho expenditure on the North Islano lilies amounted to ,£001,733 Gs. Id., or 59.92 per cent, of the revenue, ond on tho South Island lines .£500,120 13s, 5d., or GG.3B per cent, of the revoiuto, tin, total expenditure being lfls, 9d., or G2.G9 per cent, of the revenue, Tho 'expenditure for the corresponding* period of last year was =£979,182 10s. Id., or G3.IG per cent, of the revenue. Tin, increase in the expenditure shown thi,\ year totals £122,371 9s. 8d„ of which tlib North Island lines accounted for £G3,(!9t Hs. Id. and tho South Island lines foi £58,G73 15s, 7d. Tho excess of revenue over expenditure this year amounts ti, £055,838 12s. Gd., as compared with £571,42(1 lis. 3d. for tho corresponding period of last year.
