SECOND DARDANELLES REPORT
SEVERE CRITICISM AND CENSURE THE SUVLA FIASCO EVACUATION TOO LONG DELAYED By Telegraph-Press Association-CoDyrlElii • ('fiec. August 20, 11.15 p.m.) London, August 20. It is understood that the Gallipoli reuort considers that the difficulties of the ouerations were underrated at the outset. There was a delay of six weeks in reinforcing the troops in accordance with Kir lan Hamilton's estimates after the failure of the first attacks. The delay was largely duo to the domestic and political crises. There is much criticism of the Snvla-Anzac attack, in August, 1915, and also of faulty leadership on the spot. Some commanders are censured, especially for Silvia, and the decision to evacuate, which was unduly delayed. The dicsussinn over the evacuation lasted three months. The method of reaching the decision was cumbrous.
A "Times" message says it is understood that the Dardanelles Commission finds that the evacuation was justified, and is surprised at the Government's delav in the matter—Aub.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
